I am a contemporary painter and mixed-media artists. Using flowers, the cycle of nature and the west Wales landscape as a catalyst, I enjoy emulating my love of colour, shape and surfaces in paint and other media. A fusion of textiles, paint, packaging, beads, recycled materials and remnants of mine and my children’s early years are incorporated in the Tree of Life and flower series on metals. While ‘Y Gymraes’ Welsh Lady series incorporates kitchen utensils and sculpted wire, reflecting the fun and frustrations of home life. I have a broad experience of working with children as a primary teacher and art teacher including 11 – 16 year olds from the travelling community at Bynea Learning Centre and Ammanford Special Unit. I enjoy facilitating groups to engage in the making process: schools projects include large mixed-media displays on The Seasons, Welsh Culture and other primary school themes. I have just completed an external mosaic at Ysgol Penygroes based on Welsh Nursery Rhymes and a 15’x9′ interactive display at Heol Goffa Special School, Llanelli. Recent jewellery making sessions with mental health clients has incorporated the use of recycled paper, fabric and beads.
Since qualifying from Trinity College Carmarthen in 2000, with a BA(Ed) Art, Craft & Design, I have worked as a supply teacher at Ammanford & Llanelli primary schools. I continue to develop my own work alongside school art projects and facilitating community art activities. I have exhibited at The Kooywood Gallery Cardiff, The Senedd Buildings with Oriel Gorwel, The Washington Gallery Penarth, Fountain Fine Art Llandeilo and Art Matters Tenby. New work is now on show at Model House Craft & Design Centre Llantrisant and The Narberth Gallery. I have undertaken several private commissions and am currently studying City & Guilds Machine Embroidery part-time.
