‘Creative Options’ is Arts Care Gofal Celf’s “Arts on Prescription” programme for adults living in Carmarthenshire who are experiencing mild to moderate stress, depression or anxiety. The pilot programme has been funded by a grant from Health Challenge Wales.
Arts on Prescription is a type of social prescribing. In social prescribing there is a referral process whereby health or social care practitioners refer people to a service or a source of support. Arts on Prescription schemes provide arts and creative activities for participants experiencing mental health problems and social isolation. The purpose of such schemes is not to replace conventional therapies but rather to act as an adjunct, helping people in their recovery through creativity and increasing social engagement.
A range of art activities will offer people aged 18+ who are experiencing stress, depression or anxiety to meet in a supportive, safe environment and benefit from exploring their own creative freedom whilst learning from professional artists. Sessions will be delivered by skilled professional artists experienced in working with a range of groups within the community. All artists have undertaken enhanced criminal records Bureau checks and are covered by public liability insurance.
A simple, straightforward referral process has been devised, an individual can ask a GP or Health practitioner to complete a short referral form which will then be returned to Arts Care Gofal Celf. Please contact Arts Care Gofal Celf for a referral form and further information.
We will only be taking referrals until the end of September 2013 so please get in touch ASAP should you or someone you know be suitable and interested.
