Dawns - Arts Care Gofal Celf - Dance

January - March Update 2012

Day Trip to MOVE IT 2012: Saturday 10th March

With over 20, 000 dancers attending MOVE IT 2012, Arts Care Gofal Celf were pleased to be part of the UK’s biggest dance event. The trip offered friends, Artists, Families and members of the Arts Care Gofal Celf “Community Dance Project” the opportunity to join to head to London for a jam packed day of dance!

With return tickets to London priced at £20 per head, attendees were asked to book their preferred workshops and entry tickets via the move it website. Arts Care are pleased to say that 37 people joined us on the coach trip coming from as far as the Crymych to Ceredigion. Pick up points were arranged from Crymych and Carmarthen and Arts Care staff were pleased to offer parents shared guardianship of under 18’s at the event, so that parents could enjoy the day and have the chance to also participate in workshops.

We are so pleased at the number of people who attended the trip which really ended up having a Family feel about it - although the day was long it was a real success in terms of participation in dance. I would like to offer thanks to all parents who attended with children and young people and a personal thank you to Artists - Angharad James, Tara O Reilly & Trystan Cook who volunteered on the trip to act as guardians for children and young people. We would like to see this become an annual Arts Care Trip – Roll on MOVE IT 2013!”

ACGC Dance Development manager would like to offer her thanks to everyone who attended the trip “Many of us as Artists have attended the event in previous years but never as Trip – until now. The trip was a way of Artists, family members and dancers who regularly attend Arts Care workshops the opportunity to step out of our own county’s delivery to see live performances of all styles. Regardless of level of training, experience or style every person who attended the trip and attended the event shared a common interest & experience – “Engaging in the Arts”.

Cabaret Celtaidd/Limelight Dance: Friday 23rd March

In preparation of Cabaret Celtaidd, Arts Care Gofal Celf were invited to prepare one of the community dance groups to perform as part of the evenings programme on Friday 23rd March at The Lyric Theatre. On speaking with the Adult groups run by ACGC, it was evident that with only three weeks preparation not all members of one of our existing community groups could attend extra rehearsals to prepare for the show. Therefore, ACGC placed a call out for parents, adults and dancers interested in being involved in a performance troop working towards choreography and performance to come forward.

With only three weeks until the Cabaret Celtaidd, Theatrau Sir Gar Manager Carwyn Matera-Rogers kindly offered ACGC a small expenses fee and space on a Saturday morning, with this opportunity ACGC contracted Commercial Dance Artist Finola Findlay to lead on the choreographic element of the performance project based on her experience and style.

ACGC are thrilled to announce the success of the pilot rehearsal. Both choreographer and dancers did a splendid job of setting the standard of performances to come. Rehearsal days were jam packed with choreography, teaching and support and with only three days to get to know one another the group did a fantastic job of supporting one another through the sessions. The group, named by Choreographer and Lead Artist Finola Findlay as “Limelight Dance Company” performed their 1st debut as part of the 1st Welsh cabaret Celtaidd Show on Friday 23rd March.
