Artist Profile
Born in Carmarthenshire, Wales, Ainsley graduated in 2000 from
Middlesex University, London with a bachelor of Art (Hons) in
Constructed Textiles. Awarded a Master of Art in Visual Arts from Curtin
University, Australia in 2003.
Interested in the physical and metaphorical construction of cloth and
its relation to body, memory and space. Ainsley’s art practice has
crossed various disciplines including photography, weave and print.
Developing woven forms that integrate structure and image and
installations that enable the audience to re-consider the materiality of
the work and engage with it in a physical sense. An engagement which is
bodily metaphor for its making.
Experience includes holding a position as part-time Lecturer in the
department of Art, Curtin University for 4 years as well as Research
Fellow in the process of Residt Fulling. Ainsley has held workshops and
demonstrations for organisations such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award
Scheme and attended international textile workshops in Finland and
Australia. Currently a part-time lecturer at Swansea Institute of Higher
Education and part-time weaver at Glasallt Fawr, Camp hill Site for
young adults with learning disabilities.
